Registration
How do I register for Kin Valley?
Simply go to our registration page and fill in the fields. Click on Lets Go button. On the next page you will select a security question and answer, when your done click Continue, next you will enter your email address, create a username and password. Once you complete the fields, click on the Take me to my Valley button and you will be redirected to the login screen. Use your newly-created username and password to log in to see your brand new valley!
Note: Children under the age of 13 cannot register for Kin Valley without a parent or guardian setting up an account first. Once the parent or guardian is in Kin Valley, click the Register Child Gizmo
to register their child(ren).
I am a child; can I register and join Kin Valley?
If you are younger than 13 you cannot join Kin Valley without a parent or guardian doing so first. This is a safety measure that keeps us compliant with C.O.P.P.A laws and makes Kin Valley safer for children. If a child tries to register and they are under 13, we will ask for their guardian’s email address and send the guardian an email letting them know that their child wants to use Kin Valley.
If you are over the age of 13, you can simply go to kinvalley.com and then click the Join Today button to register.
What are C.O.P.P.A laws?
The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) is a law that became effective on April 21, 2000. It applies to the online collection of personal information for children under 13 years old. It sets rules for what a website operator must include in a privacy policy, when and how to seek verifiable consent from a parent or guardian, and what responsibilities an operator has to protect children’s privacy and safety online. It restricts marketing to those under 13.
COPPA is both helpful and restrictive. Read more about COPPA laws here.
How do I register using Facebook?
You can register through Facebook by clicking on the Register Using Facebook button and logging into Facebook if prompted. After you login to Facebook the registration window will open with your Facebook data applied. You can change the information here if you like.
How do I make an account for/ register my child?
Important: in order to register your child’s account you must become a verified guardian. See the Verification section to learn about Verification.
To register your child, click on the People button located on your Kin Bar. When the People Window opens, click on the Register a Child Gizmo
. You will be prompted to verify yourself before you register your child. Once you're verified, enter your child's information and click the Submit button. Once you have filled out your child’s information and registered them for an account, you will be prompted to set permissions. You may leave permissions at their default settings, or you may customize them. You have complete control over what your child sees and can do in Kin Valley.
How do I register another child after I have become a Guardian?
Click on the People button located on your Kin Bar. When the People Window opens, click on the Register a Child Gizmo
. Once you have filled out your child’s information and registered them for an account, you will be prompted to set permissions. You may leave permissions at their default settings, or you may customize them.
What is a Guardian?
Being a Guardian allows you to monitor and approve the way a child interacts in Kin Valley. Guardians see Parental Controls
as an option in their Kin Bar. You can set General Permissions for how your child interacts with new members in their valley, set specific permissions in Relationships for individuals, and approve content. You can also send and approve invitations on behalf of your child. To view and edit your child's content, you will be able to select their name under the profile picture while you are in the Parental Controls Gizmo

Verification
What are C.O.P.P.A laws?

Why do I need to become verified?
As a parent or guardian it is important that you verify your identity before your child can participate in Kin Valley. You can verify your identity with either a credit card, Amazon, or PayPal – we will charge a one-time fee $1. See the Registration section to learn how to register your child.
How do I become verified?
To become verified, follow the prompts during the registration process when you register your child. Select one of the three methods: Credit Card, PayPal, or Amazon.
If you click Credit Card a window will open where you enter your credit card information, once you fill in your information click Submit. A confirmation window will open when you're successfully verified. We use Braintree to keep your transaction secure and do not store your credit card information.
If you click PayPal a window will open where you are directed to Paypal's website to complete the transaction. A confirmation window will open in Kin Valley when you're successfully verified.
If you click Amazon a window will open where you are directed to Amazon's website to complete the transaction. A confirmation window will open in Kin Valley when you're successfully verified.
What is a Guardian?

Login and Password
How do I login?
Go to kinvalley.com and click
in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
What if I forgot my password?
If you forget your password, click the Click here for help button located on the login page. Here you will be prompted to answer the security question you set up during registration. Answer the question correctly and you will be able to change your password.
If you’re a child user who has forgotten your password, click the Click here to ask your Guardian for help button located on the login screen. Kin Valley will send an email to your guardian asking them to reset your password for you.
How do I change my password?
If you are an Adult or Child user, login to Kin Valley and click the Settings button
, then click on General. You will be asked to enter your security question answer or your old password, a new password and to confirm the new password. Once your done making changes click on the Save button. If your old password/ security question answer is correct and the two new entries match each other, your password will be changed. If not you will be prompted to make the new entries match each other and to make sure your old password is correct before you can continue.
If you are an Guardian user, login to Kin Valley and click the Settings button
, then click on Account Settings. You will be asked to enter your answer to your security question or your old password, a new password and to confirm the new password. Once your done making changes click on the Save button. If your old password/ security question answer is correct and the two new entries match each other, your password will be changed. If not you will be prompted to make the new entries match each other and to make sure your old password is correct before you can continue.
What if I have username/ password errors?
Please make sure that your spelling and capitalization are correct. If you need to have your password reset click on Forgot Password? If you are still having errors please write down the error message and click the Help button located on the right side of the screen. Please try to include as much information as possible including any error message. We apologize for any inconvenience and will get back to you as soon as possible.
What if I forgot my username?
If you forget your username, click the Click here for help button located on the login screen. Here you will be prompted to enter the email address you used to register. Usernames associated with that email address will appear and you will be asked if you know your password, if you do you will be taken to the login page, if not you will be prompted to answer your security question to change your password.
If you are a child and have forgotten your username, your guardian will be able to look it up by clicking on the Parental Controls Gizmo

First Time In
What is First Time In?
First Time In is when we show you how to use the basics of Kin Valley. You will have a to-do list on the right hand side that will contain the tasks you need to do in order to learn the basics of Kin Valley.
How do I complete the to-do list?
To complete the to-do list simply click on an item in the list and click on the glowing buttons and complete the task associated with them (example: adding a profile picture). Once you complete a task it will automatically be checked off. If you want to explore on your own you can but the button will continue to glow until you complete the task. If you happen to complete another task on the list on your own it will be checked off automatically.
Who is the owl?
The owl in the tree is named Hoot and he is your initial Kin Valley guide. He is the first one to welcome you into Kin Valley and gives you the to-do list. He is always available if you need help, just click on Hoot.
Why is a button glowing?
If a button is glowing it is because you have started a task on the to-do list and we are showing you how to complete it. If you want to explore on your own you can but the button will continue to glow until you complete the task. If you happen to complete another task on the list on your own it will be checked off automatically.
Invitations
How do I invite people to my valley with Facebook?
Click on the People button located on your Kin Bar to open the People Tray. Click on the Invite button
then select Facebook. If prompted, login to your Facebook account then click Continue. You will be met with a window that includes all of your Facebook friends. Clicking a friend will select them for an invitation. You can select more than one person. After you have finished selecting your friends click the Send Invitations button.
How do I add people to my Valley?
Click on the People button located on your Kin Bar to open the People Window. Click on the Invite button
; select Facebook, Email, or Kin Valley (if you’re a guardian). If you selected Email enter the email addresses, separate each email address with a comma, of the friends or family you would like to invite to Kin Valley then click Send Invitations. They will receive an email or Kin Valley notification.
If you selected Facebook, login if prompted then click Continue, and then select the friends you would like to invite to Kin Valley and click Send Invitations.
If you’re a guardian and you clicked Kin Valley, you will be able to search your own valley for people to invite to your kids’ valley.
Note: if you invite a child under the age of 13 their parent will also need to join Kin Valley in order to activate their account.
How do I accept invitations as a Guardian?
Click the Invitation Gizmo
located on the left side of the Kin Bar, which is on the bottom of your screen. Click the invitation you wish to accept. You will have to select the relationship the person has to you or your children if accepting.
Once you are done, click the Accept button located in the lower right hand corner of the invitation to you and your children. This will accept the invite to that person on the behalf of your child. If you don’t wish to accept the invite, click the Decline button.
To accept an invite and send one to that user on behalf of your child, accept the invite for yourself and in the confirmation window that opens, click the Click to invite for your children button. In the window that opens, select the children you want to send the invite for and click the invite for selected button. A confirmation window will open when the invitation is successfully sent.
How do I accept invitations as an Adult?
Click on the Invitation gizmo
located on the left side of the Kin Bar. In the window that opens you will see all the invitations you have received. They are in chronological order with the newest invites at the top. If you are a guardian, invites sent to your children will also be located here. Select the relationship the person has to you, their nickname, and then click the Accept button.
How do I invite people into a group?
Only the group's admin can invite people to join a group. If you are a group admin, click on the group's house then click the Manage Group button. Next click the Invite Members button located on the left hand side of the window. Select the method you wish to use and click Continue.
If you selected Facebook check the checkbox next to the friends you would like to invite to join your group and click the Send button.
If you selected Email enter the email addresses of the friends you would like to invite to join your group and click the Send button.
If you selected Kin Valley check the checkbox next to the people you would like to invite to join your group and click the Send button.
If you selected Username enter the username of the person you want to invite to join your group and click the Send button.
My Profile
What is My Profile and how do I view it?
My Profile is a section in Kin Valley that contains all of your personal information. My Profile includes your name, profile picture, your date of birth, about me, and your city. To get to your My Profile simply click your profile picture on your Kin Bar then click General Profile .
How do I change my My Profile information?
You can change your name, date of birth, city and About Me section by going to your My Profile, which you can get to by clicking your profile picture on your Kin Bar then clicking General Profile. In the window that pops up, click the Edit Button
you will be able to change your First Name, Last Name, City, Date of Birth, and About Me. When you finish, click the Save button. Click the x in the top right corner of the window to return to the valley.
How do I change my house?
In your Kin Bar, click on the your profile picture, then click on Change House to open the Change House window. Select the house you wish to use by clicking it. To view more houses click, hold, and drag the blue scroll bar to the right of the houses down.
When you’re done choosing your new house click the Save Selection button.
How do I change my profile picture?
Click on your profile picture, then click on the Profile Picture button. The window that opens allows you to select where to get your profile picture.
Clicking on Select a Photo will open your computer's navigation window where you can search through your computer for a picture to use. When you find an image you want to use, click it and then click Open. Next use the crop box to select the area you want set as your profile picture, once the crop box is over the area you want, clickSave to crop the picture and set it as your profile picture.
Clicking on Take a Photo will open the Photo Booth, which will allow you to take a picture with your webcam. When you’re ready to take the picture, click the Take Photo button. If you like the picture that was taken, click the Accept button to have it set as your profile picture. Next use the crop box to select the area you want set as your profile picture, once the crop box is over the area you want, click Save to crop the picture and set it as your profile picture.
How do I view my Kin’s Profile?
To view your Kin's profile, click on their house and then click the Kins Profile button. This will open your Kin's profile.
Interiors
How do I change my floor?
To change the floor of your room, first click on your house and click the Visit House button to enter your room. In the Decorate tab on your Kin Bar, click on the Floor button, then click the color you want to change your floor to.
How do I view a blog post from inside a house?
To view a post from inside a house, click on the Blog Board gizmo
, and then click on the post you want to view. To return to the main wall, click on the X button to close the Blogboard Gizmo.
Note: If you don't have permission to view blog posts with this person the Blogboard Gizmo will not be visible in their interior.
How do I visit a Friend’s House?
From the valley click on their house, you can see who owns which house by moving your cursor over each house until a pop-up title appears.
You can also visit a friend’s house by clicking their profile picture in the Kin Bar or in the People Window and clicking Visit House.
To leave a house, click the Home button located in the lower left hand corner of your Kin Bar or click the door in your friend’s room.
How do I change my wall color?
To change the wall of your room, fist click on your house and click the Visit House button to enter your room. Next, in the Decorate tab on your Kin Bar, click on the Wall button, then click the color you want to change your wall to.
How do I add picture frames and pictures to my room?
To add picture frames to your room, first click on your house and click the Visit House button to enter your room. In the Decorate tab on your Kin Bar, click on the Pictures button, then click the color you want for your picture frame. Click and drag on the wall to create your picture frame then select which method you want to use to add a photo to the frame. . If you want to upload a photo to the picture frame, click the Upload a Photo button
, if you want to add a photo to the picture frame from one of your albums, click the Grab from Album button
, if you want to take a photo using your webcam, and click on the Take a Photo button
. Move and scale the photo so the photo is centered the way you want in the picture frame, when you’re finished, click the Done button.
How do I move a picture frame?
To move a picture frames in your room, first click on your house and click the Visit House button to enter your room. In the Decorate tab on your Kin Bar, click on the Pictures button. Select the picture frame you want to move and click and drag the frame to the new location.
How do I delete a picture frame?
To delete picture frames in your room, first click on your house and click the Visit button to enter your room. In the Decorate tab on your Kin Bar, click on the Pictures button. Click on the picture frame you want to delete then click the x button in the upper right hand corner of the picture frame you want to delete.
How do I view a photo album from inside a house?
To view a photo album from inside a house, click on the Photo gizmo
, and then click on the post you want to view. To return to the main wall, click on the X button to close the Photo Gizmo.
Note: Note: If you don't have permission to view photo albums with this person the Photo Gizmo will not be visible in their interior.
How do I send a message from inside a house?
To send a message from inside a house, click on the Message gizmo
, whose ever house you're in will be automatically added as a recipient. Compose your message, once your done click the Send button. To return to the main wall, click on the X button to close the Message Gizmo.
Note: If you don't have permission to Message with this person the Message Gizmo will not be visible in their interior.
How do I video chat from inside a house?
To video chat from inside a house, click on the Video Chat gizmo
, the persons whose house your in will automatically be selected as the person you're calling. Click on the Start Call button
To return to the main wall, click on the X button to close the Video Chat Gizmo.
Note: If you don't have permission to Video Chat with this person or if they are not online the Video Chat Gizmo will not be visible in their interior.
Messaging
How do I send a new message?
To send a new message, click on the Messages Gizmo
located in your Kin Bar. This will open your message inbox. Click on the New Message button to compose a new message.

How do I add content to a message?
To add content to the message use the buttons in the upper-right hand corner of the messaging window. What tools are available will depend on the permissions of the person you are sending the message to (and your own if you are a child.) You can delete content as well as place content on top of one another. When you are done adding and editing the content of your message click the Send button to send the message to the recipient.
How do I add Text to a message?
Click inside the message compose area and start typing. Your message will automatically line break and scroll when you reach the end of the compose area.
How do I add Stickers to a message?
Click the Sticker button
located in the upper-right corner of the message window. When you click it a pop-up window will appear that allows you to pick a sticker. You can view different sets of stickers by clicking on the different categories located on the left hand side of the window. When you select a sticker it will appear underneath the content in your message.
How do I add Pictures to a message?
Click the Photo button
located in the upper right corner of the message window. After you click the Photo button a pop-up window will appear with three options: Upload a Photo, Grab from Album and Take a Photo. Upload a Photo opens your computers navigation window for you to select a picture from your computer; Grab from Album allows you to add a photo to the message from your Kin Valley photo albums; Take a Photo lets you take a picture using your webcam. (Note: You can only add pictures to messages if the permission settings for each user allows it.)
How do I take a photo to add to my message?
Click the Photo button
, and then click the Take a Photo button. The Photo Booth opens, which allows you to take a photo with your webcam and place it in the message. If a prompt appears asking if you would like to allow access to Kin Valley to use your webcam, click the Allow button. To take the picture click the Take a Photo button located in the lower right hand corner of the Photo Booth window. If you like the photo, click the Accept button to insert the picture into the message.
How do I upload a new photo to my message?
Click the Photo button
, and then click the Upload a Photo button. Your computers navigation window will open allowing you to navigate to and select one photo from your computer and place it in the message. Navigate to the picture you would like to send and click it to select the picture. Then click the Open button, which places the photo in the middle of your message.
How do I place a photo from my Kin Valley Album in my message?
Click the Photo button
, and then click the Grab from Album button. You will see a new window open that displays all of the photos you currently have in Kin Valley. Change what album your viewing by clicking the name of the album on the left hand side. Click on the photo you wish to add to your message.
How do I add a web link to my message?
To add a web link to your message, you can either copy and paste the websites address into the message or you can type it. When you click the Send button the website's address will automatically be turned into a weblink. If you are typing the web address it must be in one of the following formats in order for it to change into a link:

How do I move message content?
You can move content around in your message by clicking and holding then moving your mouse cursor. You can then drag the content to a new location in your message. Release the mouse button to stop moving the content.
How do I reply to a message?
To reply to a message, go to your message inbox. To reach the message inbox click on the Message gizmo
located on your Kin Bar. In your message inbox, to reply to one of the messages click one of the messages to view the full message. To reply to this message click the Reply button. You can then enter content for the message.

How do I view my sent messages?
To view your sent messages, click on the Message gizmo
located in your Kin Bar to open your Message Inbox. Once the message window opens, click on the Sent button located on the left hand side under your profile picture.
Why can’t I select this person as a recipient?
If you started composing your message and try to add a new recipient and can’t select that user, then they can’t receive media that is in your message. To add that person as a recipient you would have to remove the restricted content.
How do I remove a recipient from the recipient list?
To remove a recipient from the recipient list click on the X next to their name.
How do I send a message to multiple people?
To send a message to multiple people, click on the Message Gizmo
then click on the New Message button. Start typing the name of the person you want to send the message to, in the menu that appears click on the person you want to send to. Repeat to add multiple recipients to the message. Compose the message and when you’re done click the Send button.
How do I send a message from inside a house?
To send a message from inside a house, click on the Message gizmo
, whose ever house you're in will be automatically added as a recipient. Compose your message, once your done click the Send button. To return to the main wall, click on the X button to close the Message Gizmo.

How do I reply to a group message as a group administrator?
To reply to a group message as a group administrator, you first must be a group administrator. If you are a group administrator, click on the groups house in your valley then click the Group Mail button, this will take you to the groups Message Inbox. Click on the message you want to read and reply to in order to view the entire message. Click the Reply button to reply to the message.
How do I read a message sent to a group administrator?
To read a message sent to a group administrator you first must be a group administrator. If you are a group administrator, click on the groups house in your valley then click the Group Mail button, this will take you to the groups Message Inbox. Click on the message you want to read in order to view the entire message.
How do I send a message to members of a group?
To send a message to members of a group, click on the Message Gizmo
located in your Kin Bar. Next click the New Message button. In the Choose Recipients Window that opens, click on the name of the group in which the recipients are in. Here you can choose to either send the message to all the groups’ administrators or to an individual member. Once you have selected the recipients click the OK button. Compose your message, when you are done composing the message click the Send button.
How do I send a message to the group administrators?
To send a message to the group administrators, click on the groups house in your valley then click the Send Messsage button. In the message composer compose your message and when you’re ready to send the message click the Send button.
Commenting
How do I delete a comment?
To delete a comment you or your child made or a comment on your content, navigate to the comment you want to delete and click the X in the upper-right hand corner of the comment.
How do I comment on my Kin’s Doodle?
To comment on your Kin’s doodle, click on your Kin’s house click on the View Photos button. This will open your Kin’s Photo Albums. Click on the album called Doodles, then click on the doodle you want to comment on. Click the Comment button
located on the upper right hand side of the Doodle Viewer. Compose your comment then click the Post Comment button.
Why can’t I see who posted a certain comment?
You can only see comments made by users in your valley. You can’t see comments of users who are in valleys of your friends that are in their valley (a.k.a. friends of friends). Guardians can see comments of people in their valley along with people in their children’s valleys. If a "friend of a friend" comments on your kin's content they will appear as a Protected User.
How do I comment on my Kin’s Photos?
To comment on your Kin’s photos, click on your Kin’s house, then click on the View Photos option to open their Photo Album window. Click on the Album that contains the picture you want to comment on then click on the picture you want to comment on, then click the Comment button
located in the upper-right hand corner of the window. Compose the comment like you would a message. When you’re done creating your comment click the Post Comment button.
How do I comment on my Kin’s Blog posts?
To comment on your Kin’s blog posts, click on your Kin’s house, then click on the Read Blogboard option to view their Blogboard. Click on the Blog that you want to comment on, then click the Comment button
located in the upper-right hand corner of the window. Compose the comment like you would a message. When you’re done creating your comment click the Post Comment button.
How do I comment on a group photo?
To comment on a group's photo, click on the groups house, then click on the Group Photos button to open their Photo Album window. Click on the album that contains the picture you want to comment on then click on the photo you want to add a comment to. Click on the Comment button
located in the upper-right hand corner of the window. Compose the comment like you would a message. When you're done creating your comment click the Post Comment button.
How do I comment on a groups blog post?
To comment on a groups blog post, click on the groups house, then click on the Group Blogboard button to view their Blogboard. Click on the blog you want to comment on, then click the Comment button
located in the upper-right hand corner of the window. Compose the comment like you would a message. When you're done creating your comment click the Post Comment button.
Blogboard
How do I view past posts on my Blogboard?
To view older posts, click on the Load more blogs button located in the bottom-left hand corner of your blog window to load older blogs. Keep clicking the Load more blogs button until you find the blog you want.
How do I view a blog post from inside a house?
To view a post from inside a house, click on the Blog Board gizmo
, and then click on the post you want to view. To return to the main wall, click on the X button to close the Blogboard Gizmo.

How do I share an Album to my Blogboard?
When you add new photos to your photo album, check the Update My Blogboard with this photo album check box located under the Album Description at the top of the window .
How do I edit a post?
To edit a post, click on the Gizmo button located on your Kin Bar to open the Gizmo Window, next click on the Blog Board gizmo
to open your Blog Board. Then scroll down to the post you want to edit and click on it to go into detailed view. Click on the Edit button
to edit the post, when you’re done editing the post click on the Update Post button. To cancel any changes you make click on the Cancel button.
How do I create a new post?
To create a new post, click on the Gizmo button located on your Kin Bar to open the Gizmo Tray, next click on the Blog Board gizmo
to open your Blog Board. Click on the New Post button located underneath your profile picture in the upper-left hand corner. Add a title by clicking in the Title text box and add text to the post by clicking in the compose window. You can add stickers, photos, and text by clicking on the corresponding button at the top of the compose window. When you’re done composing your post, click the Post to Blog button to post.
How do I access the Blogboard?
To access your Blog board, open the Gizmo Tray by clicking the Gizmo button on your Kin Bar then clicking on the Blogboard Gizmo

What is a Blogboard?
Blogboard is a Gizmo that allows you to share posts and information from other Gizmo’s, like photo albums, in a central feed that everyone in your valley can see.
How do I add blog posts to a group?
Only an admin of the group can add content to a group. To add blog posts to a group click on the groups house in your valley and click the Group Blog button. To create a new post, click on the New Post button located underneath the groups profile picture. Add a title by clicking in the Title text box and add text to the post by clicking in the compose window. You can stickers and photos by clicking on the corresponding button at the top of the compose window. When you’re done composing your post, click the Post to Blog button to post.
How do I comment on my Kin’s Blog posts?
To comment on your Kin’s blog posts, click on your Kin’s house, then click on the Read Blogboard option to view their Blogboard. Click on the Blog that you want to comment on, then click the Comment button

A user must be allowed to receive the content you want to share with them. For example, if the person you want to share a photo with but their permissions are set to “no” for photos you will not be able to share a photo with them.

What is my group type?
A group type allows you to identify what type of group you’re creating. Some organizations are pre-registered with Kin Valley. If your group is affiliated with an organization like a school or sports team, providing this information will also help us suggest the best tools to help you host your group on Kin Valley.
How do I add blog posts to a group?
Only an admin of the group can add content to a group. To add blog posts to a group click on the groups house in your valley and click the Group Blog button. To create a new post, click on the New Post button located underneath the groups profile picture. Add a title by clicking in the Title text box and add text to the post by clicking in the compose window. You can stickers and photos by clicking on the corresponding button at the top of the compose window. When you’re done composing your post, click the Post to Blog button to post.
How do I invite people into a group?
Only the group's admin can invite people to join a group. If you are a group admin, click on the group's house then click the Manage Group button. Next click the Invite Members button located on the left hand side of the window. Select the method you wish to use and click Continue.
If you selected Facebook check the checkbox next to the friends you would like to invite to join your group and click the Send button.
If you selected Email enter the email addresses of the friends you would like to invite to join your group and click the Send button.
If you selected Kin Valley check the checkbox next to the people you would like to invite to join your group and click the Send button.
If you selected Username enter the username of the person you want to invite to join your group and click the Send button.

You will receive a Code from Twitter which will allow Kin Valley to access your groups Twitter. Go back to the Kin Valley window and enter the Code that Twitter gave you and click Enter. Your groups Twitter account will now be linked to your group's Kin Valley account.
Note: Your Twitter account can only be linked to one Kin Valley account and only a group admin can link a Twitter account to a group.
How do I view my group’s Twitter?
To view your group's Twitter, click on the group’s house you wish to visit and click the Group Twitter button.

How do I send a message to members of a group?
To send a message to members of a group, click on the Message Gizmo
located in your Kin Bar. Next click the New Message button. In the Choose Recipients Window that opens, click on the name of the group in which the recipients are in. Here you can choose to either send the message to all the groups’ administrators or to an individual member. Once you have selected the recipients click the OK button. Compose your message, when you are done composing the message click the Send button.

How do I access Parental Controls, Relationships, Permissions, and Guardian Approvals?
To manage your kid’s permissions, their personal information, and relationships click on the Parental Control Gizmo

To manage Approvals click on the Messaging gizmo
. Using the drop-down menu located under your profile picture, select the child who has messages needing approving. Click on the message's subject to view the message. To allow the message click Yes in the Parental Controls area

Being a Guardian allows you to monitor and approve the way a child interacts in Kin Valley. Guardians see Parental Controls

You can set General Permissions for how your child interacts with new members in their valley, set specific permissions in Relationships for individuals, and approve content. You can also send and approve invitations on behalf of your child. To view and edit your child's content, you will be able to select their name under the profile picture while you are in the Parental Controls Gizmo

Why am I unable to video chat?
If you already have Flash installed and your webcam is working, your router and or modem might not work with Kin Valley's Video Chat. To check if it will work with Kin Valley:

1. Go to http://cc.rtmfp.net/.
2. Press the print screen button on your keyboard. Then compose a new email message to support@kinvalley.com with the subject “Video Chat is not working: rtmfp”, right click in the message area and click paste. An image of the website you went to earlier should appear. If it does, click send. If the image of the previous website does not appear, repeat the steps from 1.
For Macs:
1. Go to http://cc.rtmfp.net/.
2. Press the ⌘+ shift + 3 which saves an image of your screen to the folder where your downloads go (the default is your Downloads folder). Attach this image to an email and send it to support@kinvalley.com, with the subject as “Video Chat is not working: rtmfp”.

How do I check my News?
To open your news window click on the News button
located on your Kin Bar. Here you can view any new messages, invitations, and approvals.
How do I accept invitations as an Adult?
Click on the Invitation gizmo
located on the left side of the Kin Bar. In the window that opens you will see all the invitations you have received. They are in chronological order with the newest invites at the top. If you are a guardian, invites sent to your children will also be located here. Select the relationship the person has to you, their nickname, and then click the Accept button.
How do I accept invitations as a Guardian?
Click the Invitation Gizmo
located on the left side of the Kin Bar, which is on the bottom of your screen. Click the invitation you wish to accept. You will have to select the relationship the person has to you or your children if accepting.
Once you are done, click the Accept button located in the lower right hand corner of the invitation to you and your children. This will accept the invite to that person on the behalf of your child. If you don’t wish to accept the invite, click the Decline button.
To accept an invite and send one to that user on behalf of your child, accept the invite for yourself and in the confirmation window that opens, click the Click to invite for your children button. In the window that opens, select the children you want to send the invite for and click the invite for selected button. A confirmation window will open when the invitation is successfully sent.
Games
Why is part of my game cut off?
The games in Kin Valley are best viewed in Full Screen mode. To change your view to full screen while playing a game, click on the Gear button
located in the margins of the game you're playing. Next click Yes next to the Full Screen option.

You can register through Facebook by clicking on the Register Using Facebook button and logging into Facebook if prompted. After you login to Facebook the registration window will open with your Facebook data applied. You can change the information here if you like.
How do I share one of my Kin Valley photos to my Facebook wall?
To share one of your photos to your Facebook wall, click on the Photo Gizmo
then click on the album that contains the photo you want to share. Click on the photo you want to post to your Facebook wall and click the Share button
then click To Facebook. If prompted, login to Facebook and link your account. A window will open where you can add a note to the photo, once you're ready to share the photo to your Facebook click the Share button. The photo is now on your Facebook wall.
How do I connect my Twitter account to Kin Valley?
To link your Twitter account to your Kin Valley account, click on the Gizmo button located on your Kin Bar to open the Gizmo Tray. Click on the Twitter Gizmo
, and then click on Settings. Click on the Link Account button located next to the Twitter logo. A new browser window will open, when prompted, login to your Twitter account. You will receive a Code from Twitter which will allow Kin Valley to access your Twitter. Go back to the Kin Valley window and enter the Code that Twitter gave you and click Enter. Your Twitter account will now be linked to your Kin Valley account.
How do I add topics/ hashtags to follow through Kin Valley?
To add topics/ hashtags to follow through your Kin Valley account, click on the Gizmo button located on your Kin Bar to open the Gizmo Tray. Click on the Twitter Gizmo
, and then click on Settings. In the text box, enter the hashtag you wish to follow and click the Add Feed button.
How do I connect my group’s Twitter account to my Group?
To connect your group's Twitter account you must be an admin of the group. Click on the group’s house you wish to link a Twitter account to and click the Groups Twitter button. Click on the Groups Settings button then click the Link Account button next to the Twitter Logo. A new browser window will open, when prompted, login to your groups Twitter account. You will receive a Code from Twitter which will allow Kin Valley to access your groups Twitter. Go back to the Kin Valley window and enter the Code that Twitter gave you and click Enter. Your groups Twitter account will now be linked to your group's Kin Valley account.
Note: Your Twitter account can only be linked to one Kin Valley account and only a group admin can link a Twitter account to a group.
How do I view my Kin’s Tweets?
To view your Kin’s Tweets, click on the Gizmo button located on your Kin Bar to open the Gizmo Tray and click on the Twitter Gizmo
. Any of your Kin who have linked their Twitter accounts their Tweets will appear in the Valley Feed section. Click on the Valley Feed button to view.
How do I view my group’s Twitter?
To view your group's Twitter, click on the group’s house you wish to visit and click the Group Twitter button.
Note: You must first link your personal Twitter account in order to view a groups Twitter.
How do I unlink my Twitter account?
To unlink your Twitter account, click on the Gizmo button located on your Kin Bar to open the Gizmo Tray. Click on the Twitter Gizmo
, and then click on Settings. Click the Unlink Account button to unlink your account.
How do I remove a topic/ hashtag?
To remove a topic/ hashtag, click on the Gizmo button located on your Kin Bar to open the Gizmo Tray. Click on the Twitter Gizmo

iPad
Why can’t I go to kinvalley.com to login to Kin Valley on my iPad?
Kinvalley.com uses the Adobe Flash Player to run Kin Valley, and the iPad does not support Adobe Flash Player. To login to Kin Valley on your iPad 1 click here or for the iPad 2 or 3 click here or to go to the Apple App Store to download the Kin Valley App.
Can I go to the Kin Valley website on my iPad?
Yes, you can visit kinvalley.com and navigate through our website on your iPad. The only thing you can’t do is login to your Kin Valley account through your web browser on your iPad. To login to your Kin Valley account on the iPad you will need to download the Kin Valley App from the App Store. For the iPad 1 click here or for the iPad 2 and 3 click here.
Why is my keyboard blocking Kin Valley/ Why can’t I see what I’m typing?
If your keyboard is appearing in the middle of your screen and blocking your view of what you’re typing your keyboard is most likely set to On for Split Keyboard. To change your keyboard settings so it does not appear in the middle of your screen and block your view, click and hold on the Keyboard Key
in the menu that comes up click Dock. This will move the keyboard to the bottom of the screen.
Why can’t I play games using the Games Gizmo on my iPad?
Kin Valley’s games are Flash games and the iPad does not support the Adobe Flash Player.
Why are some Gizmos missing from my Gizmo Tray on my iPad?
There are some options that are not supported on the iPad so the Gizmo was removed, once you login to Kin Valley on a computer the missing Gizmos will return.
Should I update the Kin Valley App when I sync my iPad?
Yes, we always recommend updating your Kin Valley app when an update is available.
How do I update my Kin Valley App?
If you have updates available, the App Store app will have a number in the corner of the app. To update the Kin Valley App, click on the App Store app located on your iPad. Next click on the Updates button located at the bottom of your screen. In the list of apps that have updates available, click on the Update button located next to the Kin Valley app.
Technical Questions
How do I download the Flash Player?
To use Kin Valley you must have Flash Player installed. Follow the instructions below to download and install the Flash Player.
PC:
1) Click this button

MAC:

3) When its finished downloading, look on your Desktop for the file (pictured below) and double click to open it.

How Do I Clear my Cache?
To clear your cache click on “Tools/ Clear Recent History” In the pop-up window, make sure that “cookies” and “cache” are clicked and click on “clear now.”
To clear your cache click on “Safari” in your menu bar, then “empty cache.”
To clear your cache click on “Tools/ Internet Options.” The options window should open with the “general” tab selected. On the “general tab” in the “temporary Internet files” section, click on the “delete files” button. You might also want to click the “delete cookies” button also.
To clear your cache click on the "Wrench" button
in the upper right corner. Next click on "History" then click "Clear all Browsing Data." In the window that appears make sure that "Empty the Cache" is checked off then click "Clear browsing Data."
To clear your cache click on “edit” in the menu bar. Click on “preferences” from the “file” menu. Click “history and cache menu.” Click “cache.” Click “ok” to close the preference menu.
To clear your cache, click on the “keyword” menu and then select “go to keyword” option. Enter “browser settings” into the search box and click “go.” Select the “clear my footprints” tab and then click “select footprints to clear” button. Check the boxes next to “browser history,” “cookies,” and “browser cache.” Click the “clear selected footprints” button. Click “close” when done.
How Do I Turn Off my Pop-Up Blocker?
To change your pop-up blocker settings click on “ Firefox” in the menu bar. Click on “preferences.” In the pop-up click the “content” tab. To turn off your pop-up blocker, uncheck the “block pop-up windows” check box. To make Kin Valley an exception click on the “exceptions” button. In the window that opens enter http://www.kinvalley.com in the text entry box and click “allow.”
To change your pop-up blocker settings click on “Safari” in the menu bar. Click on “block pop-up windows.”
To change your pop-up blocker settings click on “tools” in the menu bar then click “pop-up blocker.” Click either “turn off pop-up blocker” or “turn on pop-up blocker.” To make Kin Valley an exception in the “Address of website to allow” box type https://kinvalley.com then click “add.” When done click “close.”
To change your pop-up blocker settings click on the "wrench" button
in the upper-right hand corner. Next click on "Settings." In the page that opens click on "Show advanced settings..." at the bottom of the page. Under the Privacy section, click on "Content Settings." In the window that opens scroll down to "Pop-Ups" and click "Manage exceptions" type "https://kinvalley.com" into the text field and click the "ok" button.
To change your pop-up blocker settings click the “menu” drop-down and navigate to “settings/ preferences.” In the preference window under the “general” tab go to the “choose how you prefer to handle pop-ups” section. Using the pop-ups dropdown, select either “block unwanted pop-ups, open pop-ups in background, open all pop-ups, or block all pop-ups.” Once selected, click “ok” to save changes.
To change your pop-up blocker settings click “settings” on the AOL toolbar. Under the letter “p” click “pop up control settings.” Check to enable or uncheck to disable the following options:
Block pop-ups from websites I visit.
Play a sound when a website pop-up has been blocked.
Block AOL member-only offers.
To make Kin Valley an exception type https://kinvalley.com in “allow only these sites” then click “Add.” Click “save” to save your changes.
How Do I Clear my Browser History?
To clear your browser history click on “Tools/ Clear Recent History” In the pop-up window, make sure that “browsing & download history” and “form & search history” are clicked and click on “clear now.”
To clear your browser history click “history” in the menu bar. Navigate down to “clear history…” When prompted click “clear.”
To clear your browser history click on “Tools.” Navigate down to “delete browsing history” and click. Or you can press CTL+ SHIFT+ DEL. In the pop-up window make sure the “history” check box is checked. When done click on the “delete” button.
To clear your browser history click on the "wrench" button
in the upper-right hand corner. Next scroll down to "Tools" and in the context menu that opens click on "Clear Browsing Data." In the window that opens make sure "Clear browsing history" is checked off, then click "Clear browsing data."
To clear your browser history click on “file” in the menu bar. Navigate down to “preferences/ history” then click the “empty now” button. You can also check “empty on exit” if you wish to have your browser history each time you close your browser.
To clear your browser history, click on the “keyword” menu and then select “go to keyword” option. Enter “browser settings” into the search box and click “go.” Select the “clear my footprints” tab and then click “select footprints to clear” button. Check the boxes next to “browser history,” “cookies,” and “browser cache.” Click the “clear selected footprints” button. Click “close” when done.
How Do I Change my Flash Settings?
To change your flash settings click here. The window that opens will include all of your settings regarding Flash.
How Do I Change/Set My Camera and Microphone Settings?
To change/ Set your camera and microphone settings click here. Your browser will open the Flash Settings website where you will see a toolbox in the right-hand column. Beneath the buttons “delete a website” and “delete all sites” you will find www.kinvalley.com in the list of websites. Click on www.kinvalley.com in the list and click the button Always allow. This allows Kin Valley to access your camera and microphone.
When you return to the Valley, refresh the page (press F5 key on your keyboard) or log out and log back in. This will refresh your browser page and Kin Valley will recognize your new Flash settings.

I cleared my cache but I’m still getting an error, what now?
If you cleared your cache and you're still getting an error please write down the error and click the Help button located on the right side of the screen. Please try to include as much information as possible including any error messages you get. We apologize for any inconvenience and will get back to you as soon as possible.
Why can’t I connect to the website?
If you're having problems connecting to the website make sure that your Internet is working properly. You can try resetting your router and if that doesn’t work call your Internet provider.
If your internet connection is working and you are getting redirected to an error page, try clearing your cache and trying again. See How do I clear my Cache? question under Technical Questions to learn how to clear your cache.
I accidentally entered the wrong information while registering, what now?
If you enter the wrong information accidentally while registering please login. Click on your profile picture on your Kin Bar, then click on General Profile to go to your My Profile window. Here you can change your name, DOB, and profile picture, city and about me.
To change your password, click on Settings, then click on Account Settings. In the Account Settings window you can change your email address, and password.
Why isn’t my iSight camera (mac only) accessed using Google Chrome?
If your having problems with your iSight camera on your mac while using Google Chrome try uninstalling the Google Voice and Video. Follow the steps below to uninstall:
1) Navigate to Library/Application Support/Google/
2) Open the GoogleVoiceAndVideoUninstaller.app
3) Follow the directions when prompted
How do I change the view of my browser to Full Screen?
PC:
Firefox- Click on the Firefox button
in the upper-left hand corner of your screen, then click on Full Screen.
Chrome- Click on the Wrench button
located in the upper-right hand corner of your screen, then in the Zoom category click the Full Screen button 
Internet Explorer- Click on the Gear button
then under the File option click on Full Screen.
Mac:
Firefox-Click on View in the menu bar, then click Full Screen.
Chrome- Click on Wrench button
located in the upper-right hand corner of your screen, then in the Zoom category click on the Full Screen button 
Safari- Full Screen mode is only supported on Safari with the OS Lion. Click on View in the menu bar, then click Enter Full Screen.
Why am I unable to video chat?
If you already have Flash installed and your webcam is working, your router and or modem might not work with Kin Valley's Video Chat. To check if it will work with Kin Valley:
For Windows:
1. Go to http://cc.rtmfp.net/.
2. Press the print screen button on your keyboard. Then compose a new email message to support@kinvalley.com with the subject “Video Chat is not working: rtmfp”, right click in the message area and click paste. An image of the website you went to earlier should appear. If it does, click send. If the image of the previous website does not appear, repeat the steps from 1.
For Macs:
1. Go to http://cc.rtmfp.net/.
2. Press the ⌘+ shift + 3 which saves an image of your screen to the folder where your downloads go (the default is your Downloads folder). Attach this image to an email and send it to support@kinvalley.com, with the subject as “Video Chat is not working: rtmfp”.
Why doesn’t Kin Valley work on my iPhone/ iPad?
Kin Valley is currently not supported on the iPhone and iPad. We are working on an iPad app, so watch for it soon!
